How to get the most from a 6 oz jar

How to get the most from a 6 oz jar

How long does a jar of body butter last? That depends on how much you scoop and where you put it. A 6 oz (170 g) jar goes much further used on your neck, chest and wrists than as an all-over moisturizer every day.

We do not promise a number of days, because no two people use it the same way. What I can give you is a way to get more from every jar, and a few habits that keep it in good shape. It is part of our guide to using the Discovery Set to find your scent.

How much should you scoop?

One scoop on damp skin after a shower. That is the amount the butter is made for. Warm it between your fingers, then press it onto the neck, collarbone, chest and wrists.

Damp skin matters. The butter spreads further, absorbs in about a minute with no shine, and the scent lasts 12+ hours on most skin, longest on damp skin. A second scoop rarely adds anything.

What makes a jar go faster?

  • Using it on your whole body every day, since the butter covers a lot of skin.
  • Scooping a second time because the first felt thin on dry skin.
  • Leaving the jar somewhere warm, where it softens and is easy to over-scoop.
  • Sharing it. A jar that two people use is gone sooner.

None of these is wrong. If you use it everywhere, you will simply go through it faster, and the base of shea and cocoa butter does moisturize and leave skin soft.

How do you keep the jar in good shape?

Close the lid after every use and keep the jar out of heat. Butter softens when warm, so avoid a hot car and a sunny windowsill. If it does soften, put it in the fridge and it firms back up. We cover that in what to do if your body butter arrives soft.

Use clean, dry fingers or a small clean spoon for the scoop. Water in the jar is the one thing to avoid.

When should you get a second jar?

When the first is running low, if you wear it every day and do not want a gap. Two jars are $43.38 with a free travel tin, and three are $58.08 with a free mystery gift. A subscription is optional and off unless you choose it.

A small rotation also helps each jar last longer, because you alternate scents rather than reaching for the same one every day.

How long does a jar of body butter last in daily use?

Here are three real patterns, with no numbers invented. If you wear it as a scent only, on the neck, collarbone, chest and wrists, one jar stays in your life for a long time. If you smooth it over your arms and legs after every shower, the jar goes much faster. If you rotate two or three scents, each one lasts longest of all.

The honest answer is to track your own. Note the date you open a jar and the date it runs out. After the first one you will know your rate, and you can plan the next order before you hit the bottom.

What are the signs you are using too much?

If the butter feels sticky, sits on top of your skin or takes more than a minute to absorb, you have probably scooped too much or applied it to dry skin. Use less, and apply it to damp skin. Our guide to applying body butter so it is not greasy covers this in detail.

Where should you keep a spare jar?

In a cool, dark cupboard with the lid on tight. Do not leave it by a sunny window or in a car. A spare jar kept this way is ready when you need it, and you avoid a run of dry skin and a sad empty jar.

Should you use it as a scent or as a moisturizer?

You can do both, and many people do. As a scent, you wear a small amount at the points where the skin is warm: neck, collarbone, chest and wrists. As a moisturizer, you use it on larger areas after a shower, where it moisturizes and leaves skin soft.

If you want your jar to last, keep the all-over use to days you want it and the scent-only use to the rest. A mixed pattern is how most people end up using theirs. There is no wrong way, only a faster or slower jar.

Quick answers

How long does a 6 oz jar of body butter last?

It depends on your use. Neck, chest and wrists only will last far longer than all-over daily use. We do not set a day count.

How much body butter should I use each time?

One scoop on damp skin after a shower is enough. Press it onto neck, collarbone, chest and wrists.

Does heat shorten the life of a jar?

Heat softens it. Keep the jar out of a hot car. If it softens, the fridge firms it back up.
